Wild knowledge

There’s a certain kind of knowledge you can find peace in. It’s quiet, it’s not clever, but it’s a grounding force inside you.

The folk names of plants. How a valley came to be. Where wild raspberries grow. The phases of the moon. A pinch of salt in chocolate, a pinch of sugar on tomatoes. Where words come from. When it’s time to let the washing dry outside in the wind.

These things protect you from the made-up world. These are real, true, honest things that we learn from each other and from observation.

Spend more time in the mud, my friend. You might learn something wild.
