I acquired an Edwardian wedding dress in bad nick. Mostly out of interest but also to salvage what I could of the ruffles and lace.

Of course it arrived and I can’t bear to cut it up. This tiny, gorgeous thing. It’s not wearable, but I’m going to frame the bodice and hang it over my stairwell, where no light touches. It’ll hover there like a wispy ghost.

The skirt wouldn’t bear up to hanging – it’s far too delicate and heavy at the same time. So, what to do with yards of beautiful silk that’s literally falling to pieces every time it’s touched? I’ll take the lace motifs off it to reuse, but what of the ruffles? I hate to dismantle it but it’s for the bin, otherwise.
